DAVIS RESIDENCE, San Antonio, TX
The Client's love of gardening was what drove the project's landscape concept. The
client requested the accommodation of a small herb, rose, perennial, and shade
garden as well as lush plantings around the swimming pool that would eventually
provide some screening for privacy, not afforded by the small lots. The herb garden
is located at the end of the drive at the entrance to the backyard in a raised stone
planter that can be viewed from the breakfast room and kitchen windows. The rose
garden was placed on the west side of the pool. The perennial garden is located in a
sunny part of the backyard also placed in a raised stone planter with a granite
gravel path for easy access. A lacey oak placed in the far corner will provide
screening without overwhelming the yard. The far side of the pool was planted with
palms Mountain Laurels Coppertone loquats and various small flowering plants.
The shade garden is located adjacent to the house under large post oaks. The
overall effect as it grows in is of a lush varied backdrop even though confined to
small pockets of planting.
CONINE RESIDENCE, San Antonio, TX
A softscape landscape plan was developed by the landscape architect with a
planting plan using a wide variety of predominantly native with some exotic
drought tolerant plant materials to help enhance the beauty of the site and to
recapture the feeling of the hill country. The site from front to back rises forty feet
and a hardscape plan was developed utilizing retaining walls to help minimize the
slope and allow for the placement of a pool with waterfall, cabana, and spa. Unique
design features include, a scenic overlook terrace, a water fall into the swimming
pool below the cabana, a sweeping staircase up to the top of the scenic overlook,
large boulder embankments as well as stone and stucco clad raised planters and
fencing, and a bridge from the master suite to the Jacuzzi and cabana level. There
were many features that the client desired and it was our job to place them on the
site so that they were not overwhelming. The clients wanted a self contained
outdoor area for entertainment where they could close off the house entirely. This
project won an award for merit, by the National Landscape Association.

LOBOS RESIDENCE. Monterrey, Mexico.
Landscape architects completed master planning for this 64 acre private estate
surrounding a 23,500 square foot residence, swimming pool & 3,000 square foot
gazebo, perched on a mountainside overlooking the city of Monterrey, Mexico.
Scope of work consisted of conceptual design for all hardscape and softscape
elements. Hardscape included design of entry court with parking for ten vehicles,
motor court at two three-vehicle garages, front and rear garden walkways, service
access to rear garden for catering vehicles, aesthetic & erosion control retaining
walls, children's playground, Multi use Court & Soccer Play area, 120' long water
display in the rear garden and 60' tall waterfall at the entry court. Native stone
materials were used for pedestrian & vehicular paving, aesthetic retaining walls,
and water features. Softscape included design of lawn areas, plant beds, location of
major and minor trees to take best advantage of spectacular views, and
re-vegetation of excavated hillside. A palette of plant materials appropriate for
the region was compiled.
NEEL RESIDENCE. Laredo, TX.
The Client's love of the Texas Hill Country is the inspiration for this project's
landscape concept. The backyard replicates springs commonly found in the Hill
Country, providing the water source for a waterfall, which terminates in a
reflection pond (pool). The random stone paving pattern and limestone boulder
placement accents the informality of the backyard and provides planting pockets
for perennials, groundcovers and shrubs. Strategically placed red oak, redbuds and
mountain laurels softens the edges of the small backyard, creates a sense of space
and stimulates the senses with seasonal color and fragrance. Other backyard
amenities include: a spa, grotto under the waterfall, bench seating around the pool
edges, sunbathing / entertaining areas, and a small woodland garden off the
master bedroom. Activities can also extend into the evening hours with low voltage
site lighting. The frontyard continues the landscape concept with the continual use
of native plants. However plants are arranged in a more formal fashion and located
around a low landscape limestone wall, which accents the residence's strong
architectural entry.
